Sonos Amp: High-Output Wireless Streaming Amplifier

The Sonos Amp is a versatile multi-room amplifier designed to bring wireless streaming capabilities and smart functionality to traditional passive speakers. Delivering 125 watts per channel into 8 Ohms, it provides high headroom and drive capability for bookshelf, floor-standing, ceiling, or outdoor speaker installations. It integrates third-party audio hardware into the broader Sonos ecosystem while serving as a bridge for TV sound, turntables, and media streamers.

Powerful DSP, Architectural Tuning, and TV Integration

The Sonos Amp is equipped with a direct digital Class-D amplifier architecture. When paired with Sonos Architectural by Sonance passive speakers, it unlocks Trueplay tuning via the Sonos app, utilizing iOS device microphone measurements to tune frequency response to room boundary conditions.

For home theatre applications, the chassis incorporates an HDMI ARC input to receive TV audio. It decodes stereo PCM and Dolby Digital streams, driving a pair of passive front speakers while providing options to route surrounds wirelessly using additional Sonos network speakers. It features an RCA subwoofer output with an auto-detecting crossover adjustable from 50 Hz to 110 Hz in software. An analog RCA line-in allows direct connection for turntables with built-in phono preamps or CD players, streaming that audio across the entire local Sonos Wi-Fi network.

Architectural Chassis and Thermal Management

The compact, square footprint is specifically sized for AV equipment racks, allowing two units to fit side-by-side in a standard 1.5U, 19-inch rack shelf. An advanced internal heatsink maintains airflow and heat dissipation to support continuous high-output operation in enclosed rack cabinets.

The rear connector array includes custom threaded banana plug outputs that can be swapped for standard banana plugs. Dual 10/100 Ethernet ports allow daisy-chained wired networking, alongside Wi-Fi connectivity and Apple AirPlay 2 support. Front-panel capacitive touch controls allow local volume adjustment, play/pause, and track skipping.
