Super35 Sensor and Built-In IR ND Filters
At the heart of the BMPCC 6K Pro is a Super35 HDR sensor (23.10 mm x 12.99 mm) with a native resolution of 6144 x 3456. It provides 13 stops of dynamic range and utilizes Dual Native ISO at base values of ISO 400 and ISO 3200 (expanding up to ISO 25,600). This dual-gain architecture keeps low-light noise to a minimum while preserving shadow detail.
A major functional addition to the Pro model is the internal motorized IR ND filter wheel. Controlled directly via dedicated buttons on the top grip, the mechanical assembly offers Clear, 2-stop (ND 0.6), 4-stop (ND 1.2), and 6-stop (ND 1.8) optical filters. The filters are specifically engineered to filter both optical light wavelengths and infrared frequencies evenly, eliminating infrared pollution when shooting in bright outdoor light.
Tilting 1500-Nit Display and Lens Compatibility
The rear panel features a 5-inch adjustable tilting LCD touchscreen with a peak brightness of 1500 nits. This high-brightness display makes critical focus, exposure monitoring, and menu navigation fully visible under direct sunlight without needing an external monitor hood. For operators preferring traditional eye-level framing, the top of the body includes a dedicated interface port for the optional Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Pro EVF.
The active Canon EF mount provides electronic control of iris, focus, and zoom on compatible lenses, giving cinematographers instant access to an enormous ecosystem of cinema and photographic glass.
Recording Formats, Audio, and Battery System
The camera records 12-bit Blackmagic RAW up to 60 fps at full 6K (or up to 120 fps in windowed 2.8K/1080p) alongside 10-bit Apple ProRes 422 codecs. Storage flexibility is provided via an internal CFast 2.0 card slot, an SD UHS-II card slot, and a high-speed USB-C expansion port for recording directly to high-capacity external SSDs.
Professional audio capability includes two mini-XLR inputs with switchable +48V phantom power, allowing two separate balanced audio sources to be captured without an external mixer. The power system uses larger Sony NP-F570 (L-Series) batteries, delivering longer runtimes per charge compared to earlier Canon LP-E6 models.
