Essential System Setup
To begin using your Sonos system, ensure you have a stable Wi-Fi network and a mobile device connected to it. Download the Sonos app from your device's app store. When you open the app for the first time, select the option to set up a new system. You will be prompted to create or sign in to a Sonos account. The app will automatically search for nearby speakers and components like the Sonos Amp. When your product appears on the screen, select add and follow the on-screen prompts to connect it to your network. If you are adding a Sonos Amp, the app will ask how you intend to use it, such as for a stereo pair or as part of a home theatre. You can assign a specific name to each room where a product is located to keep your system organised.
Operating Your Speakers and Amp
Managing your audio is done primarily through the Sonos app or via the physical controls on the devices. Within the app, the home screen allows you to browse music services, select specific rooms, and group multiple speakers to play the same audio throughout your home. To adjust the volume, use the slider at the bottom of the now playing screen. If speakers are grouped, you can adjust the volume for the entire group or individual units. On the speakers themselves, you can tap the play or pause icon to toggle audio and use the plus or minus icons to change the volume. For the Sonos Amp, touch controls on the front panel provide similar functionality for quick adjustments without needing your phone.
Advanced Features and Customisation
You can enhance your listening experience by using Trueplay tuning, which uses your mobile device’s microphone to analyse room acoustics and adjust the speaker's equaliser for the best possible sound. To find this, navigate to the settings menu, select your room, and choose Trueplay. For those using the Sonos Amp with a television, ensure you use the HDMI ARC port on your TV to allow for seamless volume control via your existing TV remote. You can also add various music streaming services by going to the services and voice section in settings, allowing you to access all your favourite playlists and stations in one place.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
If the Sonos app cannot find your speakers, first verify that your mobile device is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Sonos system. Power cycling your router and speakers by unplugging them for thirty seconds can often resolve connectivity drops. If you experience audio skipping or playback interruptions, it may be due to wireless interference; try moving your speakers away from other electronic devices or closer to your router. For issues with the Sonos Amp and external speakers, check that the speaker wires are securely seated in the terminals and that the polarity matches. If a specific music service is failing, check the service status within the Sonos app or try re-authorising the account in the services menu.
